I believe in conservation of land for agriculture, wildlife, and open space purposes. Without an intentional effort it will not occur and our precious forests, streams, rivers, oceans and mountains will be lost forever. ESLC has championed the legacy of the Eastern Shore way of life by advancing its core mission of conservation.

Originally from New York, Helen Spinelli has earned a Bachelors in Economics from Delhousie University, a Masters in Economics from Fordham University, and an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification. In addition to 35 years of land use planning for four different Maryland counties, Spinelli has spent more than a decade teaching hundreds of graduate students as an Adjunct Professor at Morgan State University’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning. Spinelli serves on ESLC’s Land Conservation Committee, serves as a board member for the Talbot Kennel Club, and volunteers for the Caroline County Humane Society. She is a member of the Eastern Shore Climate Adaptation Partnership and is President of the Maryland Chapter of the American Planning Association. Spinelli now lives on Moot Point Farm with her husband and two dogs and one cat (Sophia Lauren, The Moose and Mr. Smith). In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, yoga, open water swimming, reading and quilting. The view from her floating dock on the Upper Choptank River is her favorite corner of the Shore.
