The Eastern Shore of Maryland is a place like no other, a mosaic of rural natural habitats and charming small towns. The Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC) works to protect the invaluable assets of the Delmarva Peninsula in a manner that promotes environmental stewardship, intergenerational equity, and social inclusion. It is my pleasure to serve as a member of the ESLC Board, which allows me to proactively engage and support the sustainable ecosystems and communities of the Eastern Shore.

Kristen Keene is a Client Solutions Manager with Resource Environmental Solutions (RES) where she develops opportunities for stream and wetland mitigation, water quality improvements, coastal resiliency, reforestation and other types of resources restoration and conservation projects. Prior to joining the team at RES, Kristen spent several years at the Port of Baltimore and almost a decade with Maryland Environmental Service as a technical project manager, specifically focusing on sediment management and wetland restoration. Kristen holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Biology from Salisbury University and one in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the American Military University. Originally from Texas, Keene now lives in Anne Arundel County overlooking Stoney Creek, a tributary of the Patapsco River, with her partner and their two dogs. She enjoys traveling and playing tennis. Poplar Island (an environmental restoration project in the Chesapeake Bay that was restored using dredged sediment collected from the navigation channels serving the Port of Baltimore) is one of Keene’s favorite examples of what makes the Eastern Shore so unique. She first visited the island about 15 years ago and during her recent years working with the Maryland Port Administration, she has had the privilege of continuing to share this Chesapeake Bay treasure with the stakeholders of Maryland.
